its very similar to many dao type chinese novels. there is the mortal world (usually just a large planet), then there is the outer realm area which is within the home universe but very large and houses the mid range 'top of their home world' cultivators (these beings cultivate things like laws of concepts like space and time sh*t like that, rather than the basic sh*t you do on the home planet). and then it gets to outside of the home universe, where the cultivators are basically just gods that can blink and destroy universes. The mc is rather friendly, especially to his loved ones, this is not an evil mc, but does some questionable things. the novel is rushed toward the ending, the last 200 chapters were noticeably worse than the first 400 chapters but still good enough to finish the novel.

Can anyone tell me what the romance is like? I was going to start reading until I saw the author's name, all his novels (at least the ones I've read) are excellent, but he has a peculiar taste for adding drama to the novel, for example: leaving the MC's wife in a coma, leaving her dying and only bringing her in at the end of the story, etc., and that discourages me from continuing reading. So if anyone can tell me if any of these things happen, you would be doing me a huge favor.

the romance is dogshit. basically just a plot device to give the mc descendants. he literally only accompanies his wife with a clone after a certain point and you only read about her once every 50 chapters in passing. the clones and main bodies have all got an interconnected consciousness, so technically they are all the same person at the same time, but the main body is strongest obviously. so basically the mc is a decent husband and father, but the story almost never mentions it past chapter 300

Not much it is really light(good) read based on author.. P/S - wife stays with him(one of his clones) always from start to finish.

Something unique about this series is that it doesn't have many of the pointless internal power struggles that many of these series have. No arrogant young master types, no pointless drama, nothing. At least where I'm at in the story, (470-something) the series has a laser focus on battles and cultivation while maintaining the family relationships and developing them.

Great story, bad ending. Too many loose ends.

There's another novel that the author wrote that had a similar ending (swallowed star) so I'd like to believe it's the same for all the others

Nah, technically, Lord Xue Ying has a proper end. But, the author did introduce new stuff at the end which leaves a distant taste. Simply put, there were still plots left untouched
